How is it November already? This month we have an exciting YA/Contemporary Fiction Novel we really thing you’re going to like. Who is Nevaeh Levitz? Growing up in an affluent suburb of New York City, sixteen-year-old Nevaeh Levitz never thought much about her biracial roots. When her Black mom and Jewish dad split up, she relocates to her mom’s family home in Harlem and is forced to confront her identity for the first time

Nevaeh wants to get to know her extended family, but one of her cousins can’t stand that Nevaeh, who inadvertently passes as white, is too privileged, pampered, and selfish to relate to the injustices they face on a daily basis as African Americans. In the midst of attempting to blend their families, Nevaeh’s dad decides that she should have a belated bat mitzvah instead of a sweet sixteen, which guarantees social humiliation at her posh private school. Even with the push and pull of her two cultures, Nevaeh does what she’s always done when life gets complicated: she stays silent.

We cannot wait to chat about this book with you! Many of our meetings are online this month due to the ongoing COVID 19 situation. We want to ensure our members safety but also wish to see your smiling faces.

    Hi,
I’m new to the group. I live in Catonsville and have been in a book club prior to COVID- miss discussing books with bright, interesting women! Looking forward to meeting the group.

Hi, Susan! It used to be about 8-10 of us from the city & the county meeting in person, but not everyone likes the online events, so it has just been more like 3-5 or so at our online meetings. We always welcome newcomers, & hope you can join us this month & hang in there until we can meet in person again. We did meet at a restaurant in Hampden that had. a great space for us, but it looks like they aren’t going to survive Covid. A few group members suggested a place in Hunt Valley, but I haven’t looked into it yet. If you are on Facebook, please request membership in the Baltimore Girly Book Club Group. That is where I post about upcoming events & books. Look forward to meeting you soon!
